Difusion
ARCH 404
Fall 2024

Diffusion re-imagines the integration of a library
as a civic asset through drawing inspiration from
natural systems. By observing patterns in nature,
Diffusion is able to break down an existing rigid
structure and reconstructs the unused Navy
Management Building of North Charleston by
creating permeable and secure areas, separated
with a membrane for the community to pass
through.
By creating interconnected zones, it establishes
clear entry points and visual connections
between library and office spaces. This approach
addresses civic needs by connecting the building
and its use to the surrounding community,
including the adjacent park. Diffusion serves as
a community binder, offering job opportunities
and promoting lifelong learning and personal
development, and creating a vibrant space
where people can connect, grow, and thrive.
